I went to the park today and got alot of pictures! Nothing too much has changed, except I got a close up pic of the crate. It has a card on the door of it but it was too small so I could not read it. Also when I was leaving they were installing one of the concrete blocks which i got a pic of. I took alot of pic of various crates I saw in the park, I thought the coaster piece may have been in them. However I saw someone loading prizes out of one so I dont thing they are in there and I believe that they are offsite. Pics will be up later.

Edit:

Alright here is my "Dirt Porn" as it is now being called.

Lets go back to the crate!

I could not read this card that was attached to the front...if it does not say "hyper coaster" I will be extremely pissed...

Image

I thought I was done for the day...but no! I saw movement and they were moving one of the concrete drainage pieces!

Back to the sky tower for the 6th time...

Well thats all I have for now! Also, everytime I was in the skytower when we passed the old site of the log flume, the person the intercom would say. " If your asking were is the log flume, well it was removed to make room for a new attraction and that is all we know!". Heck even the guy across from the fence running the mini hammer game was asked. He told the guy who asked that he would find out in a year.

Thanks for the information and pics Patrick. Great to hear about the concrete blocks already starting to go into the ground. :)

Those wouldn't be for the footers as they use a wooden or steel form in which concrete is poured to actually form the footers....KD has already poured at least four huge footers so far for their 2010 project using that method.

I think we already know what those blocks are for and are aware that they are not for the footers.

Why does everyone seem to think footers are blocks of concrete set into the ground?? Is it the age factor? Just so you know, the footers are more than concrete. They lay rebar as well for strength, and pour the concrete into the hole over that. If you notice on the KD fansite, the long wire cylinder looking things are for that as well. Same thing is used when building bridges, if you run across one on your travels.
When the footer process begins, you will see a load of rebar come in first. Go check out the Cobra page and you will see what I mean. http://carolinacobra.carowinds.com/public/gallery/index.cfm?gallery_directory=construction&startRow=31&maxRow=15
The boxes we see now are for drainage, and the pipes are attached to the boxes to lead the water where they want it to go. Whether these are for the splash down, we'll see. My hunch says yes.
Build it, and they will come

I know. Read my previous posts and you will see that I said the concrete boxes are drainage catch basins.

someone needs to do some photshop pictures again. that's one of the best things in this forum. photoshop what a hyper would look like going under the service bridge. make it look REAL nice, and maybe carowinds will consider it. then again, nahhh... but it would be pretty beast to see what it would look like.

Looking at the pics above, the last one in particular...... I think the return leg of the coaster will come over the trees at the top of the pic.... dive down to where they are digging in the dirt and burying the water drainage blocks.... that will be where they splash in the water.... then hopefully....

continue out under the bridge.... then make a sharp return to kill speed... go back under the bridge to the loading station...

One can only dream.....

Thanks, Bill! I appreciate it!

I'll update mine here soon when I see more digging and markings. Maybe in the next few weeks. I'm curious to see how the stakes near the back path to the season pass center are going to pan out. If we get the splash pool, foundation and utilities should start for that first.

I'll be doing a new KD one as well.

It really wasn't directed toward anyone. Just there was some saying they could be footer work a page or so ago. I know there are some yunguns on here that may not know.
Anyway, looking at the pics of Diamondback, it seems they had the splash finished before doing alot of other work. I wonder if the company in charge of this one will work in the same fashion? Of course, it makes sense since they will have to bury the pipes and drains, then form the splash and pour it.
Build it, and they will come

Or in all likelihood it just won't have one.

That ship has sailed.

Splashdowns are a bit gimmicky anyways... I would take more helix or a bunny hop over a splashdown any day
