I guarentee you 100% you B&M will not be 299 feet. Their tallest is just under 240 feet. If they build bigger, they have to change their design (change the supports, add supports, other things too). They stay with what works, so I don't ever see them building that high.

its one thing to talk like you are guessing but its one thing to talk like...well you knwo what you are talking about. What proof do you have to back up a claim that if B&M build bigger they would have to "change their design"? Of course taller coasters need stronger supports but you are making it seem like they would have to go back to the drawing board to make a coaster 250ft tall...

It really aggervates me when people talk like they run a company and know what the company will and wont do! The only thing we know for sure that B&M stated they wont do, right now, is a launched coaster and the proof is with hulk. Just like people change their minds B&M can change theirs also if the technology is there. But if its just a height issue im almost quite sure, and its just my opinion, that technology isnt an issue...the only issue would probably a longer chain and lots of money for the coaster!

As far as Carowinds coaster, whatever height it will be, as long as it has a good amount of hills, floaters, and positive g's i dont care how tall it is...or if it launches, or if it is floorless, or if its themed to the beverly hillbillies!

A B&M hyper makes sense for Carowinds, that same coaster makes little sense for Dominion. A Giga at Carowinds is not needed and would be a waste of money. Pound per pound, I personally feel that Carowinds is still getting the better deal. Fair is only trying to put Dominion in a position to make up some of the ground Paramount lost to Busch. Instead of looking North with envy, lets continue to celebrate our potential new coaster, which if all indications are true, will be the gold standard of the coaster world. I'm very happy that our little park has been placed in the same category with KI and Wonderland. When Paramount owned us we were not in the same class. What is happening at Dominion has nothing to do with how the company feels about the rest of the parks in the chain. They had to make a bold decision in that market, -point blank. Most of us should have seen this coming. It was very clear what the company needed to do at the former Paramount parks. Here how the strategy looks to me:

KI- big steel, but nothing that over shadows the Point
CW-big steel, tallest in Canada
Caro-big steel, tallest in this neck of the woods
KD-up Busch & SFA in a major way, to be the one of the tallest in the country. Sorry folks but Carowinds don't need the 'tallest in the country' in order to be successful.

Speaking of height, 250ft seems like a reasonable goal for the company. To me 230ft kind of sits out there in no man's land without much purpose. It's like with the Drop Towers, the two Gigas or the two Stratas, you only add the odd feet when you want to top another park. I'm not sure if it would require a lot more engineering to get a 230ft coaster to 250ft? :?:

^^Agreed. We don't have any competition in the area. I don't count Freestyle as competition for us, so it would be SFOG, four hours away...

Who's to say CF didn't look into which park to put what? We really don't know much about the FAA's role in building at this park. I'm sure when the Skytower was built, the airport wasn't nearly the size it is today. Since we are right in the line of the runways, they very well could have said it would be better to build the 200 footer here and left KD getting the Giga. We really don't know, and until the news comes out officially, we all can just guess. If they break the news at Coaster Stock, then maybe there will be a Q&A session where they can shed some light on the subject. I guess they would need to break the news about KD's coaster too for that to happen though.
Maybe someone that will be at Coaster Stock will be able to see if there is some type of guidelines the FAA puts on the parks that are within a certain radius of the airports from a general standpoint, and what guidelines Carowinds specifically has. Colors, height, types of rides, etc.
I'm excited anyway from the reviews of Diamondback and the thoughts we may be getting something very similar.

In regards to the FAA, as has been said before, I think the park would be ok as long as they don't top the Skytower. This was the case when Nationsbank planned the 60 story tower downtown. I'm sure any new building uptown that is less than that height would not need additional approval.

Hello happy readers, he we go again...

Image
Not much to say but that the ant hills have started in here too.

Image
Dig baby dig!

Image
If you stare at this dirt long enough, a coaster will magically appear!

Image
More pink popping up.

Image
Something is going on here.

Image
The ants have been busy here too.

Image
And finally for anyone that wonders what those big boxes in the area behind the shops on the left when you first come in the park... it's just storage for the $150 Scooby Doos.

Great pics man. Gotta love those ant hills. :D Also, is it just me or do they seem to be moving more slowly here than at KD? :? Maybe they have more time to build the coaster at Carowinds due to less harsh winter or it isn't going to be as big of a coaster. :?:

I don't think vertical construction started on Borg until the park closed, and that was the end of October. I don't think they'll wait that long for this one, but you never know.

They aren't going slow though, those pink markers weren't out there in the dirt last week. Or at least there weren't so many.

^^Virginia doesn't really have harsh winters, granted they get snow several times in the off-season but I don't think it's bad enough (usually) to halt construction for an extended period of time...

Both parks have the same amount of time to construct their coaster now, if they both open to the public on Opening Day 2010. I'd have to say that ours is going to be the smaller because they have a Giga on the way. So, maybe the reason KD's construction is "moving faster" is that they have something bigger to build.

Could be that what has been planned there didn't require as much grading and they are building with the lay of the land. Here they may have wanted to do more site prep. Maybe they are going to put in a splash down at Carowinds. Maybe the company that is building their coaster does things different than the company that is building Carowinds coaster. PLEASE, just be patient and enjoy.

KD's coaster was probably prepared way before ours so it couldbe done and ready to ship. If ours is a B&M, then theres not much rush as it simply just has to travel down the interstate. Intamin would probably like to make sure there is plenty of time for all the coaster pieces to arrive.
