I guess that thing actually does work.... well kinda sorta...

You know, I've been to the park 4 times now and have yet to see it make a run in person...... My 7 year old is dyin to get on that thing, and is disappointed every time we have gone so far...

I rode it at GL, we'll leave it at that.... but she is stoked to ride it... It took em what a good full season to get Borg's bugs worked out.... 8)

It's still there, you just have to sort it to view more than 2 weeks back. It's a weird thing about the new boards.

***I have changed the name of the thread since the Log Flume has been completely deconstructed***

Wormy weren't you the one who said other people needed to take the reigns and head out to the park with cameras? :P

Not much has been done to the parking lot since my last visit.

Hey the South Gate is open! Can barely tell thanks to the fence.

Hopefully Dora does reopen soon so we can get some more awesome dirt pics. (Yes I did ride the Sporticopters, so what? )
Image

You can see the new and old Dora trackbeds in this pic.

I don't even know what these are.

New for 2009: Dora the Explorer's Suciedad Adventure. (Suciedad is spanish for dirt, thank you babelfish)

The mountain of dirt from Dora.

Dirt.

The area that was previously home to the remote control boats has been filled in.
Image

There is a valley here and it is intriguing me, my guess it just hasn't been filled in yet.
Image

Pile of crap.
Image

Why isn't this a pile of crap yet?
Image

Only thing left of the Log Flume is the signage.
Image

Backside of dirt.

I wonder if these trees will make it; also a survey flag in the lower left corner.

Close-up of the newish shipping containers.

The only dirt mover on site.. of course I'm sure there are more that come out when no one is watching.

Dora track through the dirt.

Skytower pics:

It looks like lots of work is being done behind Cyclone. Probably just a dumping ground for a lot of the Log flume stuff.

Overview.

No rhyme or reason?
Image

Swiper no swiping!
Image

These trees live, for now.
Image

This gate is brand new, and I predict will get a lot of usage in the coming months. Also some flags!

I also edited my sloppy google maps picture to now reflect the shape of the fence near the south gate better.

I have added all the pics from yesterday, as well as Hi-Res versions of the ones above to my 'Carowinds - 2009' gallery which can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamminj/sets/72157616362016078/

"Lookit here son, I say son, did ya see that hawk after those hens? He scared 'em! That Rhode Island Red turned white. Then blue. Rhode Island. Red, white, and blue. That's a joke, son. A flag waver. You're built too low. The fast ones go over your head. Ya got a hole in your glove. I keep pitchin' 'em and you keep missin' 'em. Ya gotta keep your eye on the ball. Eye. Ball. I almost had a gag, son. Joke, that is. "<br>

So, basically, we're hoping there isn't any track in those shipping containers? :D

From the giant bag of stuffed animals and that wire cart that allows you to hang plush on it, I doubt those containers have anything to do with what is happening with the dirt mound. They most likely also store merchandise in some of those trailers, and the hand truck is probably for the hundreds of boxes of deflated basketballs the park goes through (that's right, they have to inflate every one of those damn things!). When I worked at Carowinds (granted, many years ago now) I was a games manager and that is where we kept the majority of the plush animals - in trailers. There used to be some over by Thunder Road, too. I certainly don't miss that job.

As for the site with the dirt mound, it looks like they are keeping part of the pond - for now. Water splash down a la Diamondback???

The more the merrier Jay!

That gate is seeing some action. Saw a caravan of three trucks hauling that dirt off at one point.

I very seriously doubt that those containers have either track OR stuffed animals in them.

Anyway since this is my thread I'm going to hijack it for a second and post a link to my little semi-trip report.
