Anything else you want to say: I found Carowinds: the Eary Years a few years back and it was pretty awesome reliving my first amusement park memories. The Carolina Gold Rusher was my first rollercoaster in 1974. I was nine. Next year I rode my first "real" rollercoaster - the Scooby Doo coaster and was freaked out when I came out of my seat! But I was hooked. That summer they were building Thunder Road and as an 11-year old I was in awe of the huge white wooden structure going up.

That year, SFoG held the tallest rollercoaster record with the Great American Scream Machine (105') - just to imagine how far we've gone. Amazing.

I used to be a "ride warrior" - a trip to Carowinds would produce 8 - 10 rides on Thunder Road. But as I got older I became more prone to motion sickness. Kinda sucks. But my love for coasters has never died and today when traveling I won't think twice about spending money to enter a park with a world class coaster, ride it once, and continue on down the road. Desparado in 1998, Millenium Force in 2000, etc. Griffon just last month was my lastest "gold star".
