Top Gun was originally going to be themed to Godzilla until Godzilla bombed at the Box Office (If I remember right, it was Godzilla. I'm sure someone can correct me if I'm wrong.). They then frantically thought up a new theme and repainted the supports.

I still find it funny that they considered Godzilla a failure, it made over $130MM in 1998!

But I do remember them thinking it was going to be the next Titanic or something. I still remember going to see it at AMC South Blvd, and they had like 6 screens of it.
Just throwing this out there, does anybody think that this coaster might actually be a B&M Dive Machine and not a Hyper like we are all expecting?

I am really curious if anyone else has noticed this and also would like to hear opinions of those who have been down at the fence near those footers. Are they really farther apart then they appear from Afterburn's lift hill? Which to me looks like only 30-40 feet or so more or less. If a hyper does not have a hammerhead then it will have a helix and I know the footers are way to narrow for that. Any one have any other 'turnaround' possibilities? Maybe one of those RCT drops where the track drops down and turn back in and winds up right beside itself on the way back? Would love some close up photos of those last footers at the south gate.

Getting ready to "Launch" (kinda like on hulk) into 2010!!

DOSWELL, VA – On August 20, 2009, Kings Dominion will hold a press conference to announce the largest capital investment in the park’s 35-year history. The event will take place at the Grand Bandstand on International Street at 11:00am.
Guests on hand for the announcement include Virginia Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, Regional Vice President of Cedar Fair Richard Zimmerman, General Manager of KD Pat Jones and most interestingly, Jeff Steiner and Taylor Earnhardt of Dale Earnhardt Inc.
As there is a major NASCAR track in Richmond, VA, there is speculation that this will be a NASCAR-themed roller coaster.
