Excuse me, I'm new to the whole watching a coaster 'construction' thing. What is "rebar" and what is the purpose? Something for supports?

Rebar goes into the ground and used to support the concrete footers. Concrete is poured into the rebar.

My guess is yes, I believe rebar is used for supports so concrete should be poured soon.

Oh and I meant to say this before, but for those that think this is taking a long time consider that every time I'm at the park, something new has happened or is happening.

Today they are putting rebar in the ground, they weren't doing that last week.

So be patient people, these guys and gals know what they are doing.

Rebar is a steel rod with lumps on it used to re-enforce concrete. It does not contain the concrete but is usually in the center of a support column or foundation. It gives the concrete shear strength. Forms will be created around the rebar and concrete poured.

Davidtmp wrote:Why does everyone seem to think footers are blocks of concrete set into the ground?? Is it the age factor? Just so you know, the footers are more than concrete. They lay rebar as well for strength, and pour the concrete into the hole over that. If you notice on the KD fansite, the long wire cylinder looking things are for that as well. Same thing is used when building bridges, if you run across one on your travels.
When the footer process begins, you will see a load of rebar come in first. Go check out the Cobra page and you will see what I mean. http://carolinacobra.carowinds.com/public/gallery/index.cfm?gallery_directory=construction&startRow=31&maxRow=15
The boxes we see now are for drainage, and the pipes are attached to the boxes to lead the water where they want it to go. Whether these are for the splash down, we'll see. My hunch says yes.

Reading is fundamental.

My update wont be as good but at least it's something

So I stopped by the park for 15 mins today and wow it was busy. So lets begin.

Whats this? What is it pushing down?

Image

THEY ARE PUSHING...HOLES INTHE GROUND FOR REBAR?!?!?!?!? I DUNNO YOU TELL ME!

Image

Image

Can someone tell me what that is?

Image

A staple of this topic, dirt.

Image

Blocks are over here now, I think that trench is where the splashdown will be, not sure though.

Image

Rebar pushing thing

Image

What is this for? I wonder

Image

Image

Hmm, maybe lightnin' will come....

Image

The red crate betrayed me...please dont let you guys betray me..or else..

Image

Eh it's probably nothing, my guess is the track is off property.

Image

What is going on back there?

Image

Personally I think the former log flume area wil be mostly the splashdown and the station and the rest of the ride will be in the parking lot

Image

I am guessing those are 3 important guys at the bottom

Image

Some more zesty dirt porn...sorry if thats offensive

Image

On to the parking lot and more final summons

Image

Can I introduce a new term? Rebar porn?..sory if thats offensive

Image

DRILL PORN! sorry if thats offensive..

Image

Mmmm chocolate rebar! ;)

Image

DONT LOOK AT ME RED CRATE! ..... it's too painful :(

Image

REBAR! Need I say more?

Image

Getting rebar is more exciting than getting track...... :? ;)

Image

Pardon me sir, do have any rebar?

Image

Insert rebar joke attempt here

Image

Bye bye rebar.... :(

Well folks, there is definately a storm brewing at Carowinds...

GREAT pictures man.
I think the drill thingy is a well digger or something... that wouldn't make sense, though because you'd think (if they had a water fountain in the que line) it would be from the main water system that goes around carowinds, not from a well.

I have no idea why it just posted links and not the the images themselves. I am investigating now.

I think that giant drill is drilling holes for footers, right?

The machine you see is a drill used to dig holes to put rebar into the ground to hold concrete which is used to hold footers. Every hole you see dug by the machine is where a footer is likely to go in the end.
